Karma & Phala

Zhenhan Chen

Karma & Phala is a video installation in which caricatured renditions of religious and political figures engage in a conversation filled with existential one-upmanship. Framed as the artist’s “sincere praise” of all religions, the piece invites viewers to think deeply—and critically—about their beliefs and the figures they choose to worship. The work satirizes faith as a tool for control and self-justification, questioning its relevance in a world driven by science, logic, and evidence. From divine posturing to political fanaticism, Karma & Phala encourages viewers to mock and deconstruct everything—including this art piece itself. Step into this irreverent dialogue and dismantle the gods we’ve crafted in our own image.
