THE POWER OF JUXTAPOSITION:
AN AR COLLAGE SERIES

Juxtaposition is used to describe the phenomenon of when two objects, concepts, or materials, terms, events, or visual imagery that may seem opposing or unrelated are put in relation to each other. Juxtaposition’s mechanisms are complex, as it activates the brain to create connections that people may not have been aware of before. In this AR collage series, each collage of seemingly unrelated objects can be scanned on viewers’ phones. Using AR technology, the collages come to life with animation, bringing the juxtaposed elements in the collage together in a way that emphasizes their underlying cohesion. This series aims to make viewers more aware of when this phenomenon happens, its subtle power and mechanisms, and how it can change our viewpoint.
