The Cabinet of Curiosities
Hannah Goldschmidt
Welcome to the Cabinet of Curiosities! This installation is an immersive fantasy-styled magic shop conjured by the eyes of the child who, in the act of seeing, creates the world of magic, whimsy, and mystery. The goal of the shop is to summon the world of childhood imagination, turning make-believe, superstition, and even innocent misunderstanding into works of wonder. Humanity casts their spells in the act of creation. The magic shop is meant to teach the visitor to find magic in the mundane, and even challenge the notion that there is such a thing as "mundanity". The world is bursting with spells to be cast, potions to be brewed, trinkets to be charmed, wonders to be worked, and magic to be made.

Fabrics are sewn together to represent the essence of specific memories, some as simple as roasting marshmallows during camping trips to the many hopscotches created with her grandfather to the homes she grew up in.

Certain patterns also represent members of her family, including those that are gone but never forgotten.
