Love at First Site
Jonathan Ramesh
Love At First Site is an app designed to raise awareness about the constant surveillance of city life by exploring the relationship between the viewer and the viewed. This project brings together various forms of surveillance, with a focus on the data that surrounds us and carries information to higher powers. Through this app, the surveillance of intimate spaces is examined, challenging the viewer's understanding of power dynamics and their feelings toward these monitored environments. The collected data is then transferred into an electronic sculpture, drawing on the features of its panopticon-like form to display a curated collection of messages from viewers against a backdrop of security camera footage. Hundreds of comments circle around the screens, illustrating the distance this data travels and providing context to the information, shedding light on a language that often goes untranslated.
