Unconventional Arcade Control Schemes
James Gallagher
This project's goal is to promote increased interactive experiences through gameplay that can help bring people together. This is being done through recreating the unconventional and multiplayer-focused control schemes from arcade games that have historically only been playable in Japan. Additionally, by using leftover materials and reusing/recycling old parts from consoles and machines, this will help to emulate the old-school arcade experience. James chose this topic because he always loved going to the arcade and enjoyed the sense of community it fostered when playing there with other people. In the wake of Covid, James has observed an increase in distance and isolation between people, which is why he feels so passionate about being able to create these interactive experiences to help bring people together again.
